Bring Out Your Inner Athleta | Learn the Benefits of Walking for Fitness

by Patricia Hinde 13 Aug 2022 0 Comments

Walking is a simple & enjoyable activity which most of us perform quite frequently each day. We rarely recognise walking as a form of exercise. Most people dismiss it simply based on the fact that it is a simple task that is performed almost inadvertently by individuals every single day throughout their lives. It’s a common misconception that walking is not an effective form of exercise. However, it can be just as beneficial & effective as running or jogging.

Walking is the Perfect Starting Point to Bring out Your Inner Athleta

Walking is a form of exercise that you can do anywhere. It’s a great way to begin to get in shape, tone up and lose weight.

Tips for our Walking Athleta Women

You can walk alone or with your best friend. Walking requires no equipment, just a good pair of athleta shoes. You can walk at any time of day, in any environment, as long as there is a path to follow and ensuring that if you chose the crack of dawn or during the evening, you are walking in a well lite, safe area and you are wary of your immediate surroundings.

A brisk walk can burn up to 350-400 calories per hour depending on your weight, height, age, and sex. Walking with a higher cadence (steps per minute) will increase the intensity of your workout and bring about greater benefits for your heart health as well as endurance.  Throwing in a few hills will most definitely help to tone up those hamstrings & glutes, whilst burning up calories at a much more rapid pace.

Studies show that people who walk regularly have better mental health than those who don't. Walking has been shown to be more effective than other forms of exercise in lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart disease and diabetes.  Walking is also an excellent way of reducing stress and anxiety, which can improve your mood and your overall quality of sleep.

For women - of all ages - that are yet to begin their fitness journey and activate their inner athleta, walking can be a great foray into the fitness arena. Walking is relatively easy, (compared to other exercises) puts less pressure on the muscles & joints, and can be quite enjoyable if done the right way. Fitness can be a difficult journey for many women out there and walking is the first big step towards pursuing that journey & it's easy.

So where to start?  Well, simply put, you need to schedule a convenient time for yourself to walk alone, with a companion, best friend or your faithful puppy dog. Some of you might find it convenient to walk home from your workplace or your educational institution. Others might like to use a treadmill at their local gym. Whatever your choice, feel free to try out other environments with an open mind and maybe you enjoy some better than others.

The benefit of using a treadmill is that it allows you to keep track of your pace and cadence. However, if you wish to feel more at home with nature you can choose a scenic park or beach.

The most engaged part of your body during walking are your feet. It’s a great idea to invest in a pair of good quality running shoes that contain thick and comfortable insoles and offer good arch support. This will ensure that it is your shoes that bear the impact of the ground and not your feet while you walk.

The second, but most important part, is your workout wear. Since most of the muscles on your legs are highly engaged during walking, you need to wear the right kind of activewear. At Club Athletica we don't beat around the bush by promoting low-quality, cheap products.  A girl must be comfortable, and you must not feel restricted in your apparel.

If you are in the warmer weather like our USA customers, the Scrunch Shorts from Club Athletica will be the perfect fit for you. Made of an extremely lightweight and stretchy 75% Polyester and 25% Spandex blend, the Scrunch Shorts are perfect for everyday use and can double as your walking or jogging shorts.

For our Australians & Kiwi’s on those cold winter mornings, there's quite a lot for you! Club Athletica's Scrunch Leggings are made from the same composite material as the Scrunch Shorts which have a supple/buttery touch and feel whilst being highly durable, lightweight and stretchy. Their high-waist profile means they will fit the shape of your body better whilst keeping you in style!

Ladies, music is a must have! Need pockets to store your belongings/iphone while you're on the go? You needn't worry! Club Athletica presents Pocket Leggings that offer generously sized pockets to keep your phone and other personal items whilst you workout. They are also manufactured using the same composite material as the Scrunch Leggings so they keep all the same features whilst adding pockets.

Hopefully you’ve learnt a lot about the benefits of walking, how it can lead towards a happier life & best of all…….”Bring out your inner athleta!”.
